The Yellowstone spin-off starring Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton will premiere on 1st March on CBS and Paramount+, but the series has made a slight adjustment
The eagerly anticipated Yellowstone spin-off featuring Luke Grimes back as Kayce Dutton has dropped its original title, Y: Marshals.
The new series is poised to launch in just a matter of weeks on CBS and Paramount+ streaming platform.
Following the demise of Kayce’s father, the powerful rancher and Montana governor John Dutton (portrayed by Kevin Costner ), the continuation follows him as he enlists with an elite squad of US Marshals.
Leveraging his experience as an ex-Navy SEAL and accomplished cowboy, he’ll assist the specialist enforcement unit in dispensing frontier justice throughout the state.
Yet the official description cautions: “[Kayce] and his teammates must balance family, duty, and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence”, reports the Express.
Ahead of Grimes’ much-anticipated comeback to television screens, the spin-off has undergone a rebrand prior to launch and will now be known simply as Marshals.
TV Insider confirmed the modification this week, which is believed to have been a CBS directive.
Notwithstanding the amendment, the ‘Y’ insignia will remain visible in the programme’s logo, preserving the series’ link to the Yellowstone universe.
The alteration also echoes a comparable switch made to the 2021 prequel 1883, which originally went by Y: 1883 whilst in production.
A preview clip for the drama has revealed that Brecken Merrill will reprise his part as Kayce’s son, Tate, alongside Gil Birmingham returning as his father’s one-time adversary, Thomas Rainwater. The ensemble also features Mo Brings Plenty reprising his role as Rainwater’s trusted aide, Mo, alongside fresh faces including Arielle Kebbel as Belle Skinner, Ash Santos as Andrea Cruz, Tatanka Means as Miles Kittle and Logan Marshall-Green as Pete Calvin.
The West Wing legend Brett Cullen is set to appear in recurring episodes as Harry Gifford.
One significant character shrouded in mystery is Kayce’s wife Monica (Kelsey Asbille), whose whereabouts in the series haven’t been revealed, although viewers can expect clarity on her absence during the opening season.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Spencer Hudnut teased how Monica’s possible departure will significantly impact Kayce’s dynamic with his son.

“I think Kayce primarily always saw himself as a provider and a protector to his son, but maybe left the parenting to his wife,” he explained.
“But as he’s had a little more time on the home front, one of the things we get to see is the bond between Kayce and his son and also just seeing Kayce beginning to see a lot more of himself in his son as well.”
Viewers will need to wait until the debut episode drops in less than two months to learn what’s become of Monica.
Marshals premieres 1st March on CBS and the following day on Paramount+.
