Netflix fans want to know what will happen between Sophie and Benedict Bridgerton. *Warning – this article contains major spoilers for the Bridgerton novels.*
Season four of Bridgerton explores the relationship between Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek, but does the couple end up getting married?
Bridgerton, which may be expanding with some thrilling spin-offs, has returned to Netflix with the opening four episodes of series four, chronicling the romance between Benedict Bridgerton (portrayed by Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha). The Cinderella-esque storyline begins at Benedict’s mother’s masquerade ball, where he encounters an enigmatic lady dressed in silver.
When the woman confessed she couldn’t dance, Benedict whisked her away to a secluded corner of the gardens to show her some basic steps. During this tender exchange, the two experienced an instant connection, though the woman was compelled to leave abruptly as midnight approached.
Left with nothing but one of her gloves as a keepsake, Benedict became fixated on finding the woman who had captured his affections. What he didn’t realise was that the mysterious guest wasn’t from the upper classes at all – she was actually a servant, employed by a household that treated her poorly.
Failing to link the two identities, Benedict remained entirely oblivious that Sophie was the very woman he’d been searching for. With just half the series released so far, the ultimate destiny of Sophie and Benedict remains under wraps.
However, there’s substantial material in Quinn’s novels indicating the pair will indeed achieve their happily ever after.
Do Sophie and Benedict Bridgerton get married?
In An Offer From a Gentleman, the storyline centres on Sophie Beckett, an Earl’s daughter who finds herself at the mercy of her vindictive stepmother.
Sophie manages to slip into Lady Bridgerton’s famous masquerade ball, where she encounters Benedict.
Tragically for her, she’s forced to flee at the stroke of midnight to evade her stepmother’s notice, leaving Benedict desperately hunting for his mystery woman. Within the novels, Benedict and Sophie eventually wed and build a life together.
Yet their nuptials don’t actually unfold on the page, with Benedict declaring to Sophie: “In my heart, you are my wife.”
By the time they resurface in Colin and Penelope’s tale, Benedict and Sophie have already tied the knot.
Given this structure, it appears the television version may well mirror the books’ trajectory. This theory gained weight during a chat with Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey, who portrays Anthony.

Thompson and Ha have previously discussed the developing romance between Benedict and Sophie in the run-up to series four, with Ha revealing to W Magazine: “Sophie and Benedict go on a journey of getting to know each other by playing this cat-and-mouse game, and because we shot chronologically, we got to form a deeper bond that way, too.
“There’s something about Luke where you feel a sense of ease, you’re quite relaxed, and you’re open to letting things unfold in real time.”
Discussing what Sophie recognises in Benedict that escapes others, she explained: “She sees someone who is of noble rank, but who’s also scared to accept himself.
“In that way, she sees herself in him, which is why they connect. That otherness quality bonds them. She sees his imperfections, but also loves them.”
